Gender, Power, and Representation in Media Industries

Abstract

The paper explores the intricate relationship between gender, power, and representation in the media industries. By examining various forms of media, including film, television, and digital platforms, this study delves into the ways in which gender norms, power dynamics, and the portrayal of characters are shaped and reinforced within these industries. The analysis highlights the disparities that exist between male and female representation, focusing on issues such as underrepresentation, stereotypes, and the absence of gender-balanced narratives. Furthermore, the paper investigates the role of gatekeepers, cultural context, and audience reception in perpetuating or challenging these gendered representations. Through a critical lens, the study argues for the necessity of addressing these imbalances in order to foster a more inclusive and equitable media landscape.
