Abstract

This paper explores the multifaceted role of film festivals as instruments of cultural diplomacy in the global arena. Film festivals have emerged as significant platforms for promoting cross-cultural understanding, showcasing diverse cinematic expressions, and fostering international relations. The analysis examines the impact of film festivals on cultural exchange, national branding, and the soft power dynamics of countries. It considers various global perspectives, from the high-profile events like the Cannes Film Festival to regional and niche festivals that cater to specific audiences. The paper further discusses the challenges and opportunities faced by film festivals in navigating cultural differences, promoting dialogue, and contributing to the broader objectives of cultural diplomacy. Through case studies and theoretical frameworks, the study highlights the importance of film festivals in shaping global narratives and fostering a more inclusive and interconnected international community.
